To Tommy, From Zooey

There is nothing more All-American than Tommy Hilfiger and the fun-loving sitcom star Zooey Deschanel, so why not throw them in the design studio to see what happens?

The two met each other’s acquaintances at a mutual friend’s house, where they struck up a conversation about Zooey’s outfit. ‘The New Girl’ star admitted she loved vintage clothing and from there came the idea of doing a collection together. What not?

Today, Hilfiger has created 16 dresses highly influenced by Deschanel. Looking at the sketches it definitely has Zooey written all over it. The collection includes shirtdress, prints and pleats. Keeping with the vintage feel that sparked this design collaboration, the dresses have a sixties aesthetic. Think Twiggy!

The two seemed to have enjoyed working with one another; having these things to say to Women Wear Daily.

“I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe,” she said. “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.”

“She reminds me of Audrey Hepburn for her sense of humor, her sophistication,” he said. “She is very bright and very funny, and really down to earth, the girl next door. At the same time, she has a Jackie O type of chicness to her.”

Since Deschanel was the muse for this collection, it only makes sense for her to be the face of it. She will be in all the advertisements to accompany the launch of the line.

The “To Tommy, From Zooey” capsule collection will be launching on April 14th in 200 Macy’s locations for the spring season. The collection will launch just in time for Macy’s ‘American Icons’ campaign.  The prices will range from $98 to $199.
