The Vogue cover seen around the world, the cover that everyone is talking about and the cover that is the prime and best example of Branded Business’s tagline, “Where controversy creates brands and makes good business.”
When Vogue released pictures of their April issue, the media went haywire. People thought Anna Wintour would never let Kim Kardashian appear on the illustrious Vogue. Gilt went as far as saying that Anna Wintour “caved” and Cosmo created ironic collages with the editor-in-chief’s infamous quotes and compromising pictures of Kim. Kimye and Vogue, quickly became the butt of many jokes on Twitter.
Top keep her rank as one of the top fashion editors, Wintour had no choice but to address the issue and explain her choices.
She stated, “Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)”
She isn’t wrong, Kimye definitely know how to stir up the media and conversation, that is why they are the ultimate brand. People can make jokes, but the couple are ultimately winning. Years later they will not remember the awful tweets, just the fact that they graced the cover of Vogue, which is an honor. The brand of Kimye is actually doing Vogue a favor, because people are talking about them at a time when the print industry is declining. The duo may seem ridiculous to most, but they know how to stay relevant and make everything they touch relevant.
